It has been brought to my attention that I never did post photos of M’s completed room rejuvenation! There is actually a good reason for that . . . I wanted to be 100% done with it before doing so. And unfortunately, there are still a few details I haven’t wrapped up yet. However, when I realized that I still haven’t posted photos of my craft room remodel FROM 2 YEARS AGO because I still need new mini-blinds and curtains — I figured I should just go ahead and post the photos of the bedroom. Heh. Warning: Lots of photos ahead!
So, back in April, I posted my no-budget redecorating ideas. I’m happy to say that the plans really came together! We ended up finding a great bedroom set on Craigslist, and I put poor furloughed Michael to work painting all 8 pieces of it!! (Such an awesome hubby!) As soon as we had furniture, the ball was moving! We painted the walls a lovely shade of green, moved the furniture into position and then it was time for me to take care of the special details!

My intention was for the tree to be the focal point of the room, visible from the hallway. I began by using painter’s tape to mask off the outline of the tree trunk and then carefully painted inside the lines! I was so nervous, but it turned out great! Next, I cut out random leaves from a discard wallpaper book (that miraculously matched the bedding we’d picked out!) and glued them to the branches. What do you think?

For curtains, I found lovely blue sheers from Target for $5 a panel (can you believe it?) and then sewed a pennant banner to use as a valence. It was fun picking out fabrics to coordinate with the bedding!

I used some of the same fabrics — a great japanese print — to cover the chair cushion and a dated-looking scroll pattern on the mirror. (Meg can use the border to tack photos and other memorabilia to it!)

I also made some fun matching push-pins for a bulletin board over her desk:

Here’s a photo of the desk wall. It’s still missing some artwork, and therefore seems a little bare at the moment.

The little birdie and the nest are from Pottery Barn, purchased last year.
I found some cute wooden birdhouses at JoAnn's for $1 apiece, and spray painted them to match the rest of the furniture. They're currently perched on top of the garden-gate headboard! We may add some patterned paper to them in the future to give them a little "pop"!

Behind the door is a sweet little mirror that I swiped from my mom and repainted to match. (It currently houses the Domo Brothers!) I will be putting hooks underneath it, so Meg has a place to hang up her coat and backpack.
I still need to make a fabric birdhouse for the tree mural, a decorative wood panel for one wall, and some paper-covered wooden letters for over the bulletin board. I will also be ordering a really cute piece of art from Etsy for another empty spot. I’ll make sure to take more photos as I finish up those details! (Or maybe not, knowing my track record!!)
I’m really proud of how we put this whole room together for under $500 — including the furniture!! Meg loves her “new” room and I no longer avoid going in there!!
Success!
