Don’t you love an unexpected windfall?? I certainly do!! I was originally thinking that this upcoming weekend was going to be a typical work-around-the-house weekend. Necessary, but not too exciting!
But that all changed on Tuesday when I discovered — through one of the many indie music blogs I read — that a very cool event was happening in Green Bay this Saturday. It’s called the Okobos Music Festival, and has an AWESOME lineup of some of my favorite artists: Ben Harper, Ben Folds, Death Cab for Cutie, Ingrid Michaelson, M. Ward, and Jewel. (Okay, Jewell isn’t exactly my favorite, but that’s okay!!)
Anyhow . . . this music blog had a pair of passes to give away to one lucky commenter. I left a comment. And then I scoped out a few more music blogs that were also giving tickets away, and left comments there, too. I text messaged Mike and told him to keep Saturday open because I was going to take him on a date. I just had a feeling I was going to win a pair of tickets!!
Sure enough, a few hours later I got an e-mail from one of the blog writers telling me I’d won! Woot!! Mike couldn’t believe it!! As soon as I secured babysitting (thanks Grandma Nancy!!) I began to look for a hotel so we could make it a whole weekend getaway! I found an Irish Inn — St. Brendan’s — complete with Irish Pub, and booked a room!
I’m giddy at the prospect of “date night”. After ignoring the concept of “alone time” when our kids were small, we’re truly enjoying the fact that we can go out and do things together without incessantly worrying about the babies.
It has been so much fun getting to know him again through these little mini-adventures! I think he feels the same.
So, off to Green Bay we go. I’m sure we’ll be making a stop at Lambeau Field on Sunday. The Packers are in Seattle this weekend, so we miss the chaos of a home game (probably a good thing) but I’ve never been to Lambeau and look forward to setting foot on the hallowed ground.
Have a good weekend, everyone!
P.S. Go check out Kami’s Blog to find out what frugal activities other people are doing this weekend!! Is mine frugal?? Probably not! But FREE tickets!! C’mon . . .
