Patience: Not my Strong Suit (aka: Why I Don’t Submit)

I just heard word from a very reliable source that the Powers-That-Be at QuicKutz are trying to wrap up the design team selection and start calls BEFORE their predicted “last week of December” date. I am nervous all over again.

So, say a little prayer for me. Or keep your fingers crossed. Or whatever it is you do . . . Thanks!

QK Call me!

Really.

The Holidays are flying by . . .

I realize that nearly a month has passed since I last posted. I never said I was good at this blogging thing!! And to be perfectly honest, I’ve been in “hermit mode” for the most part. Which is what happens when I’m overwhelmed with life and, well . . . crabby. That’s me! Anyhow, I’ll try to open up a bit more.

The Thanksgiving Holiday went off without a hitch. Always sketchy, you know!! Especially when the festivities are to take place at your house. But the DH went into Cleaning Mode a few days beforehand, and the entire house was spotless before the company arrived. We had a full house, for sure. Ten adults and 6 kids! I was putting out the “good” china, and realized I only had nine plates. I KNEW we had more . . . and realized it was still packed away from our wedding almost 12 years ago!! I guess that means we’ve never fed more than nine adults before!! So, I unearthed a few extra plates so the adults wouldn’t have to eat on the everyday plates! (That could, after all, start a war of some sort!!) Thankfully, the meal was delicious and the company was great as well. No little family feuds or anything! BONUS! After most of the company left, we sat down and watched the new “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” movie — which was a hoot!! One of my new favorites, for sure!! I’m not a huge Johnny Depp fan . . . but he was hysterical in this movie!!! I think I’m drawn to odd, quirky (and perhaps child-phobic?) characters, so the humor in this movie was right up my alley. I hope Santa brings me a copy of my own!!

Anyhow, since the Chubby Red Guy will be visiting very soon, I realized I had better get thinking about Christmas. (My mother has been asking me about Christmas since before Halloween, and I told her I couldn’t possibly entertain any thoughts of THAT holiday until the others had passed!!) But, alas, I have no more excuses. So, on to Christmas preparations . . .

I decided to make an advent calendar this year, and modeled it after Kelly Goree’s fabulous Chinese Take-out box calendar in the Basic Grey newsletter. Each day, you pull out a slip of paper and do the holiday-oriented activity specified. Perhaps this will force me to S-L-O-W down and enjoy the holiday a bit more. My calendar turned out cute — not as cute as Kelly’s — but I wanted to finish it THIS year . . . and if I put my usual speed into the project, my kids might be grown and moved out of the house by the time I finished it. So, it’s done. (I’ll take photos and share later, if anyone is interested!)

Christmas Card PhotoI also subjected the children to the annual Christmas Card Photo Shoot this weekend. I’ve worn them down — they fuss about it less each year!! I swear, I shot 100 photos — at least — and probably only got 6 to 10 decent ones!! Doh!!! Can’t tell if I’m a crappy photographer — or if my subjects move too quickly!! Both, I’d guess. Anyways, I will leave you with one of the better ones! Now, I just have to construct the cards!! I had my inspiration for them about a month ago (Gasp! A holiday thought before it’s allotted time!! Don’t tell my mother!!) Let’s see how long it takes me to make the buggers and get them into the mail . . .
